I've had a hard time with my breast milk supply...something that I never thought I would have to deal with. It was emotionally tolling at first because I couldn't help but feel like I was failing at one of the most natural things in life. Sadly I feel like there's a big social war over the decision to breastfeed or not. There is plenty of evidence to support how valuable breast milk is, but the idea of shaming a women who isn't breastfeeding needs to stop. There are so many reasons why women can't breastfeed. Sometimes it's hormonal, sometimes it's because of a life saving medication that can be dangerous to an infant, sometimes it's because of a surgery, sometimes it's because of a disease, or sometimes it's because of an emotional decision. That being said, my choice was to breastfeed. So when it seemed as though I might not be able to, I was very upset. After seeing a lactation consultant I was able to learn tips and tricks to get my milk supply up as well as some helpful supplements and I want to share them with you.
Even though I still have to supplement with formula, I am so glad that I am able to breastfeed. Here are a few supplements that have helped me.
Munchkin Milkmakers Lactation Cookies - These are so yummy!
Boobie Bar breastfeeding bars - These have been so great in the morning or for a snack during the day.
Fenugreek+ Herbal supplement - Always check with your doctor, but these have helped me a ton!
Premama Lactation Support - This is a great powder mix-in!
If breastfeeding is something that you want to do but are struggling, make sure you do your research...there are so many options and tools to get that milk flowing!
XOXO,
Sasha
